Study groups have been an integral part of UNC Kenan-Flagler's
management development philosophy for more than 25 years. We believe that
learning to work in teams is a primary vehicle for success in today's workplace,
in which teamwork, diversity, and mutual support are critical. Each first-year
MBA student is assigned to a study group of four or five people. First-year
study groups are carefully constructed to maximize demographic and cultural
diversity, while assuring a variety of interests and work experiences.
At the end of year one, UNC MBA teammates evaluate each other using a formal
assessment instrument. Some of the specific areas covered in their
evaluations are:
- Leadership
- Reliability, Dependability
- Flexibility
- On-time delivery
- Cooperation
- Openness to other ideas
- Quality of work delivered
- Communication ability
- Willingness to step out of area of expertise
- Contribution to team's success
Please select two people that have worked with you as part
of a team. Ask each of them to provide you with an honest and detailed
assessment of you as a teammate, especially of your performance in the areas
mentioned above.
In 1,000 words or less, please share your personal reflections on the
feedback you received. How will you benefit from what you have learned? How will
your UNC MBA teammates benefit?

students who have majored in non-business fields. To prepare for the
quantitative dimension of the MBA Program, we strongly recommend that all
enrolling students have some background in calculus, microeconomics, statistics
and financial accounting. If you have not studied these subjects in college or
university, please explain how you have demonstrated proficiency in these areas.
