How would you describe the Saïd student community?
Very diverse. The first thing that strikes you is how international the
class is. At the same time the diversity of their backgrounds is amazing.
Where do the majority of graduates end-up geographically after
graduation?
Our graduates end up anywhere in the world. However, Europe is still the
main destination for a lot of our students.
Can you discuss the admissions interview, who actually interviews the
candidates and where interviews take place?
The admissions interviews are conducted by faculty members and by the
Admissions Manager. These can take place in Oxford, or overseas during one
of our information events. If the candidate is unable to attend an in-person
interview we can do the interview by phone.
How can a candidate best prepare for the interview?
During
the interview we want to make sure that the candidate is a good fit for the
school and that the school is a good fit for the candidate. My advice would
be to prepare for this interview as one would prepare for a job interview.
Are there any top application blunders you would hope that
prospective candidates would avoid in the future?
There are a
few common mistakes we see every year. One of the most common is that
candidates need to send their complete applications by the deadline of the
stage they wish to apply in order for us to review the application. If there
is any document missing we will not process or review the application.
Another thing applicants should avoid is writing overly long essays. We have
a maximum number of words per essay and I would advise an applicant to stick
to that. The admissions committee has to read over 1000 applications, and
that is the reason we prefer shorter essays
Is there any general advice you would like to offer prospective
students for the next recruiting cycle?
Last year we received
about 1000 applications for 220 places. This year we have already seen a
seventy percent increase in the number of applications we've received, which
means that the process is becoming more and more competitive. I would highly
recommend that students who wish to attend Saïd should apply as soon as
possible.
